Something really worth talking about

I am departing from my usual topics for today because I have something that needs attention.

In one of my classes I recently learned about a war that is going on the the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This war, which almost nobody in the US is aware of, is second in deaths only to WWII.

But what is different about this war?
It's a femicide.

Yes, not genocide, femicide.

The major weapon in this war is rape.

The video I have attached can explain the situation much better than I can.
I am aware that almost noone reads this blog, but if you come across this, please make yourself aware of this horrific situation in which almost 90% of women have been raped.

Just please go this website and watch

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/01/11/60minutes/main3701249.shtml

If you would like to assist in the effort to help women in the Congo, please visit vday.org

A lot of money raised by this organization is done so through performances The Vagina Monologues at colleges.
I know, i was a little scared when i heard 'The Vagina Monologues' too.
But participating in the play is not the only way to help.
Just visit the site, and at least make yourself aware of what is happening.

Thanks.

Lily, Constance, and a blue peacoat

So i know at the end of the last post i said i would talk about burberry.
i lied.
but i will talk about lots and lots of burberry soon!

instead, a quick post about some models i am obsessing over. :)

first, lily donaldson.

stunning. this girl has been the face for burberry, gucci, dolce&gabbana, dior, maxmara, the gap, and h&m in just one year.
gorgeous.

Also, as i was religiously perusing models.com today, i came across constance:

An upcoming frenchie who stomped for plenty spring/summer 09 collections in paris, including Versace, Dolce&Gabbana, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Valentino, and Hermes.
it looks as though her career as a model has a bright future.
On a different note, i realllllly want to get a blue pea coat.
not the boring navy blue, sort of a more jewel tone.
will be looking for that soon.
so, next time, burberry.
maybe..

Browsing photos from LA fashion week

Definitely some things catching my eye..

This dress from Lauren Conrad is (surprisingly) adorable.

I LOVE these gowns from Kevin Hall.
I hadn't really taken a look at any of his things before..
beautiful. (minus the belt on the first dress but that's just me)

More to come later, I have a midterm in twenty. :/
I've been trying to find the time to post about Burberry coats(yummmmmmmmmmmm)

why Gabrielle Chanel will never die

I was looking over the photos from Paris of the Spring 2009 Chanel collection.

Honestly, I don't think anyone can ever truly imitate what Chanel did. Or what Lagerfeld is doing now for that matter.

Chanel = classic sophistication. Nothing beats it. Even if you wouldn't wear one of her suits to your workplace, they are still beautiful. The overall theme of her clothing is the definition of chic. Her line of clothing always represents a sophisticated and powerful woman. Karl Lagerfeld has done an amazing job in keeping her spirit in the clothing.

I don't know if anyone else watched the Chanel movie on lifetime. Ridiculously corny(well it is lifetime), but so awesome at the same time. Downloaded it to my iPod like six minutes after I watched it for the first time.

And I swear, if I ever have a lot of money to my name I will treat myself to a piece of Chanel jewelry. Everything in her fine jewelry collection is gorgeous. drrroooooooooooool

Um, Santa, I want these:

Just go to chanel.com and look at the fine jewelry. you'll have a wishlist too i'm quite sure.

Lets not even get started on the bags...

Alright I'm stopping now.
ahhhh i just love being a broke college student.

My Awesome Life and not so awesome(but gone!) acne

so.
lately there have been some really great things happening(and about to happen) in my life.
:)
last friday i met with an agent at one of the most prestigious model management companies in the world.
we talked about her job(my dream job).
and we talked about me interning for the company next summer.
basically what i have been waiting to do for about half of my life.
i cannot even say how amazing it was to be in an agency like that and know that there is a good chance that i could get my name in there.
i'm getting all excited just thinking about it :)

another thing.

i have been fortunate enough to meet the woman who organizes the annual hair show for Redken.
the event takes place in las vegas every february and there are about 45o models involved.
the news:
i'm going with her to the event this coming february :)
we are supposed to meet for lunch in the next week or two to discuss the details.
i am ridiculously excited.

basically----things are looking up. really up :)

Now let's talk about something that EVERYONE yes everyone hates.
Acne.
A few months ago I had a lot of blemishes on my face.
This was a surprise because I never really had skin problems.
I was breaking out mostly on my chin and around my mouth.
I finally went to the dermatologist and she said my breakouts were due to a hormonal imbalance.
the only way to get rid of this is medication.
By the way, almost all people who are experiencing regular breakouts only on their chin have a hormonal imbalance that is causing their acne.
She prescribed me an oral medication for the hormonal imbalance, and also gave me two topical creams to use on my face.

The first is used in the morning and is called clindamycin.

The other cream is Differin, which is used at night.

After using both of these for a few months my skin looks SO MUCH better!
I don't break out anymore and the quality of my skin has improved.
The only remnants of my old breakouts are slight acne scars(only visible up close), which only go away with time or a series of chemical peels. I am seriously considering the latter but that's a whole 'nother story.
Anyway, the moral of the story is: if you have persistent acne go to the dermatologist!!!! It is completely worth your time to rid yourself of the daily embarrassment that acne brings.
until next time---

Broken Car and Sun Protection

This morning I get in my car to drive to school and a light comes on. A flashing exclamation point with a gear encircling it.

Wonderful.

Lately, when I first start my car it is hard to accelerate. The engine just does a lot of revving so I drive really slow through my neighborhood. Usually about the time I'm getting ready to go on the main road, the car finally downshifts with a heavy thud. Then it drives fine.

Well today that was not the case. The car was super-revvy today and the light came on. It did the downshift thud thing every time I came to a stop.

I'm so screwed. :(
I have to go to work today right after school so I hope the car makes it that far.
I don't have the money for a new car!!! AH!!!

Let's talk about something else.

I have become paranoid about being a wrinkly old woman. I know, I know, but I really am. Since I live in a HOT climate with tons of sun, I'm sunscreen obsessed.

Anybody want skin cancer? Raise your hand!
exactly.
SO no matter where you live you should use sunscreen. I learned that everyone basically has an allotted amount of sun exposure to use and then after that point the light becomes harmful.

Most of us have used that allotted amount by the time we are 18 years old.

Did you guys get that? 18.

So slather on some of that stuff to prevent premature aging and of course, skin cancer.
I know everyone says, it makes me greasy. Here is your solution.

Neutrogena makes an awesome sunscreen called dry-touch that comes in high SPF to keep you shielded all day.
But the best part?
No grease.
This isn't the Banana Boat you coat your body with at the lake. It doesn't leave your skin feeling oily, and in fact, makes it look healthier. Gives you that "glow".
Go out and buy some before your face becomes wrinkle central!!
Alright, that was a little harsh but really, this stuff is good for you.

Until next time, I wish you luck on the health of your skin, you wish me luck on the health of my car.

Oscar de la Renta Spring 2009

I was beginning to think that everyone had forgotten the notion of being "ladylike".

Oscar proved me wrong(thank you jesus).

Here is a designer that truly knows how to dress a woman, without venturing into the terrifying realm of matronly.
I can appreciate his knowledge of a woman's body(is anyone else tired of feeling pregnant in those baby doll tops???) as well as her interest(well, most of us anyway) in maintaining that air of sophistication.
His color palette for spring is delicious, except for maybe the lime greens, but that may just be me.

Another bit: I am addicted to the shoes at Dillard's.

Hey, I'm on a budget and they always have great options for under $100.

Recently purchased a pair of black pumps that are kind of a throw back to older versions of men's dress shoes. A bit like saddle shoes, the heel and toe are patent, while the middle of the shoe is calf skin. They lace up with ribbon in the front, I call them booties :)

My boyfriend bought me these about a month ago. Appropriately entitled "Illusion" for the fade from light grey to black, I had to have these shoes when I saw them. Good thing I fell in love with them right around our anniversary. What wonderful timing ;)

Until next time----
